Big Win: NUP Sweeps Masaka City Division Elections

National Unity Platform-NUP candidates have gained swept the Masaka City Division Mayor’s seats. Steven Lukyamuzi and Michael Mulindwa Nakumusana won the Kimamya-Kobenra and Nyendo-Mukungwe division seats respectively with big margins.  

NRM’s Uhuru wins Kampala Central Mayoral race

Salim Saad Uhuru, the National Resistance Movement-NRM party candidate has won the Kampala Central division Mayoral seat. He was declared elected by the Kampala Central Returning Officer, Doreen Musiime at 5 am this morning.   According to the poll results announced by Musiime, Uhuru garnered 13,114 votes against 10,654 votes garnered by his closest and National Unity Platform rival, Hamudan Kigozi Semugoma.

The incumbent Kampala Central Mayor and Democratic Party candidate, Charles Musoke Sserunjogi came third with 5,318 followed by independent candidate, Patrick Mugisa with 2,095 and Lameck Sewanyana, another Independent candidate garnered 820 votes.

We shall vacate Bobi Wine residence – Police

Uganda Police says that even though they haven’t received the court order to vacate NUP President Robert Kyaguanyi’s home, they are making plans to withdraw today because they are a law-abiding institution.

Heavy security deployment still remained surrounding the Magere residence of the 2021 presidential elections runner-up several hours after the High Court ruled that restricting Mr and Mrs Kyagulanyi since January  14, is illegal.

Roadblocks are placed in all feeders leading to the home of Kyagulanyi – aka Bobi Wine – and there are still restrictions to all people who want to access his home. Only village locals are allowed to bypass the roadblocks after presenting particulars as area residents. All motorists and journalists were turned away at the roadblocks. Soldiers and Police are patrolling the area in vehicles while others moving on foot.

Polling Station in Nansana Gets Less than Half Required Ballot Papers

There have been chaotic scenes as voters at the four polling stations hosted at St Joseph Catholic Church protested missing ballot papers and declaration of results form.

Since morning, there has been confusion brought by misallocation of ballot papers for both female and directly elected councilor. Upon detecting this anomaly, electoral officers tried to resolve the matter.

However, when electoral materials for polling stations at St Joseph Catholic Church were inspected, it established that they had received very few ballot papers compared to the number of registered voters at the polling stations.

Breaking: Two Presiding Officers Arrested in Lugazi for Ballot Stuffing

Two presiding officers have been arrested and voting suspended at Moneko and Kololo-Luseeta polling stations in Lugazi Municipality following reports of ballot stuffing.

Henry Kafuko, the presiding officer at Moneko polling Station and Sula Muganga who was presiding over polls at Kololo polling station were arrested with three boxes each full of pre-ticked ballot papers.   

The voting exercise delayed in the entire municipality due to late delivery of election materials following a heavy downpour. But, according to area residents, the two officers were seen stuffing ballot boxes with pre-ticket ballot papers before the exercise started at mid-day.

Big Story: Hundreds Camp at Soroti Court as Hearing of Election Petitions Starts

Hundreds of supporters and their candidates have camped at Soroti Court premises as the hearing of election petitions commences. The petitioners, majorly from the ruling National Resistance Movement are contesting the results from the parliamentary election held on January 14th, 2021.

Teso sub-region, which comprises eleven districts including Soroti City, voted six MPs from the Forum for Democratic Change- FDC, eight independent candidates and 14 from NRM.  However, this morning trucks loaded with supporters of the candidates who lost the just concluded polls arrived in Soroti City from different districts to present their cases to court.

Anger as Agents of Kabale FDC Mayoral Candidate Are Arrested

Five polling agents of Richard Muhanguzi, the Forum for Democratic Change-FDC-party Kabale Municipality mayoral candidate have been arrested. They are Saul Kagyema alias Magyani, the Coordinator of Muhanguzi in Northern division, Lazarus Okello, Ruth Musimenta and Frank Sabitti.  

The suspects were picked up between 10 am and midday by Uganda People’s Defense Forces and police officers under the command of the Kabale Resident District Commissioner, Darius Nandinda and Police Commander, Brian Ampeire.

Can the NUP Election Wave Change Uganda’s Politics Forever?

There are mixed reactions among political Analysts about the possible effect of the voting wave that saw the National Unity Platform, a new political outfit, win a majority of parliamentary and district leadership positions in recent elections. 

The National Unity Platform, headed by Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu won nine out of the ten Parliamentary positions in Kampala, and the majority of the positions in Greater Masaka, Wakiso, Mukono, Mpigi, and parts of Busoga, among others.

7 Perish in Boat Accident on Lake Victoria

Seven people have been killed in a boat accident on Lake Victoria.

The seven were killed in the wee hours of this morning after the boat they were travelling on board from Lwanabatya Landing Site in Kyamuswa Sub County Kalangala district to Kasenyi landing site in Entebbe capsized in the lake.    

There were nine people on the fishing boat. Four Women and 3 children drowned after their boat was hit by heavy winds.

Big Win: Kasolo, The comedian elected Jinja City Mayor

Peter Kasolo commonly known for his stage name, “uncle Kasolo,” in the Swengere family comedy crew, has surprised many on his election as the new Mayor Jinja City. 

Kasolo, a member of the National Unity Platform-NUP party defeated nine contestants who include Forum for Democratic Change’s-FDC Frank Nabwiso.

Norbert Mao sets sights on 2026 elections

Former Democratic Party (DP) Presidential Candidate Norbert Mao has said that he has not given up on the bid for presidency aimed at bringing change in Uganda.

Mao said that even after losing the recent Presidential elections to incumbent President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party he will still contest in the next elections and ensure that he brings a change in Uganda.

The DP President General was on Sunday speaking to hundreds of Christians from Holy Rosary Church in Gulu City during the weekly morning mass. He said that he owes a lot to the Acholi people who have overtime shown trust and confidence in him.
