Court martial Sentences 248 over illegal possession of fire arms.

The 3rd Division Court Martial sitting at Moroto government prison has convicted 248 civilians for illegal possession of firearms with the convicts sent to serve different sentences in various government prisons where they will be rehabilitated.

On Tuesday, the chairperson of the Court Martial, Col. Francis Kateraho sentenced another group of 14 convicts who shall serve their sentence in Soroti. One civilian Lonyang Apadomo, who was charged with two counts of illegal possession of firearms was sentenced to 10 years each to run consecutively.

Seven others received 10 years each, while 2 were sentenced to 7 years. Three civilians were sentenced to 4 years and 1 convict was sentenced to two years.

Col. Bitaraho said the court had considered the severity of the cases and how the convicts were using their firearms to kill civilians and government soldiers.
