UPDF spokesperson Brig Gen Flavia Byekwaaso has publically denied having any knowledge concerning the brutal arrest of MPs Hon Ssegirinya Mohammed and Allan Ssewanyana just minutes after each secured bail.

According to Brig Gen Byekwaaso, she hasn’t yet seen the videos showing how the two were arrested but says if there was an extra use of force, then it is unfortunate and regrettable.

“I don’t know if there was high-handedness in arresting MPs because I wasn’t there but if it happened, it’s very unfortunate.” She says

The UPDF mouthpiece adds that if someone is not resisting arrest then there’s no reason to use force further saying that sometimes people like resisting arrest something that forces the security forces to use force.

She however asserted that the security forces don’t regret rearresting the two MPs because they have fresh charges of murder and attempted murder on a number of individuals in greater Masaka.
