It was a dream come true for James Mubiru and the entire NUP fraternity as the Rubaga North III councilor elect was today released from Makindye Military Prison, on a noncash bail of Shs. 10m 10 months after being arrested.

The General Court Martial in Makindye had remanded Mubiru James in November 2020 after being charged for wearing a red beret.

The incarceration made Mubiru miss the swearing-in ceremony in May as the Rubaga North III councilor at KCCA Lord Mayor’s Garden in Kampala

“After several months under illegal detention at Makindye Military Prison, comrade James Mubiru has been granted bail by the court martial. As we welcome this brother, let us continue working hard to see that all political prisoners who are still under detention get their freedom.” NUP spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi said.

Upon being released, Mubiru drove straight to Rubaga were jubilations have been taking place with a final welcome home party to be hosted at his home in Nankulabye zone.

Mubiru James is among the few NUP politicians that have lived a test of time, top political anaylst believe he will eventually represent Rubaga North come 2026.
