Uganda Peoples’ Defense Forces (UPDF) Land forces commander Lieutenant General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has eulogized fallen soldier Deputy Inspector of Police Major Gen Paul Lokech.

Gen Muhoozi speaking to Whisper Eye News, during a phone interview said that Maj Gen Lokech has been a well-disciplined, patriot, intelligent and hardworking soldier.

“The country has lost an indomitable warrior and patriot. Rest well my brother Maj.General Paul Lokech,” says Gen Muhoozi.

“You fought a very good fight for the motherland. We will always remember you and miss you,” he added.

Major Gen Lokech was serving in South Sudan before being appointed the Deputy IGP.

Mr Lokech is one of the commanders credited for breaking the back of Al-Shabaab militants in Somalia when he was commander of UPDF contingent between 2011 and 2012, at a time when Somalia was a “no-go zone’.

Lokech’s military warfare intelligence led to the capturing key historical places like the Red Mosque in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu, the then Brigadier Lokech was nicknamed the ‘Lion of Mogadishu’.

A name given to him after weakening notorious Al-Shabaab fighting groups in Somalia.

Paul Lokech was born on 1st January 1966.

He was appointed Deputy Inspector General of Police of the Uganda Police Force on 16th December 2020.

Between November 2017 and December 2019, he served on special assignment “to monitor on behalf of the guarantors of the South Sudan peace process, the assembling, screening, demobilization and integration of the armed forces of South Sudan”.

He will be buried on friday this week.
