Minister Okello Oryemu confirms that Lumbuye will be extradited

The Uganda government has indicated that Ugandan blogger and critic Fred Lumbuye could be tried in Uganda following reports of his arrest in Turkey.

According to Foreign Affairs state minister, Mr Okello Oryem, Lumbuye had committed several offences and was not above the law and should not expect to be treated exceptionally.

According to reports from the Ugandan Community in the Turkish capital Istanbul, Lumbuye was arrested for living in Turkey illegally following the expiration of his passport and Visa stay.

However, the Foreign affairs ministry adds that the Uganda Embassy in Ankara is yet to receive official communication from the relevant law enforcement institutions on Lumbuye’s case as papers for his extradition are being worked on.
