Erias Lukwago beats odds donates Eid Food items to Kampala mosques leaders

The Lord Mayor of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Al-hajji Ssalongo Erias Lukwago has donated food items to Kampala mosques leaders ahead of Eid al-Adha.

The beneficiaries at each Mosque among the selected ones are; the Chairman, Imam, Deputy Imam, Amiraat and Muezzin.

While handing over these items at Wandegeya Mosque on behalf of the Lord Mayor, Kizza Hakim Sawula and John Mary Ssebuwufu; Secretaries for Works and Finance and Administration respectively asked the Muslim Community to be believe that these challenging days will come to pass.

Mr Ssebuwufu added that the Lord Mayor’s Office will also try to work out modalities of reaching out to other leaders in future.

While receiving these items; the Kampala district Khadi Sheikh Idris Luswabi, Kampala Imams’ Chairman Sheikh Said Kasawuli, Sheikh Ahmad Kasaliko of Lubaga and Sheikh Ali Kizza Kasule of Wandegeya Mosque appreciated the Lord Mayor for this act of philanthropy.

They also apprised that the Government should think of using religious leaders to reach out to the vulnerable populations.

“We’re here and willing to help the government to reach out to vulnerable people during this period of Covid-19 lockdown. There is a need to help them,” says the Muslim clerics.

Uganda government through the office of the prime minister Rt. Hon Robina Nabanjja banned politicians from giving out food during the ongoing Covid-19 lockdown on accusations that it is risky to the beneficiaries who can contract the Corona Virus during the process of receiving food relief.
