Mbarara man slaughters ex-wife over waragi, millet

The police in Mbarara is investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 35 year old woman.

Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Region police spokesperson identified the deceased as Judith Arinaitwe, 35 a casual worker and a resident of Kifufu village, Bubaare Subcounty, Mbarara district.

Kasasira told this reporter that on 30th June 2021 at around 3:00am, Arinaitwe was cut with a panga and killed in cold blood at her place by her ex-husband Edson Mwebaze a resident of Kyantamba village, Bubaare Subcounty in Mbarara district.

It’s said that Arinaitwe and ex- husband Mwebaze had separated from a 5 year relationship in February 2021 after developing misunderstandings that resulted from domestic violence.

The Rwizi Region PRO narrates that the deceased succumbed to over bleeding due to the multiple cuts to her head and arms.

Kasasira confirmed Mwebaze’s arrest after handing himself to Bubaare Police post last night at around 9pm after a failed suicide attempt by swallowing an acaricide.

Mwebaze told the Police that he was forced to commit such a regrettable after the deceased left him for another man after stealing his Ugx 350,000 that in cash, Waragi, Millet and other merchandise.

Kasasira confided that the suspect is being detained in Police custody at Mbarara Central Police Station for prosecution.

The deceased was taken to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for Postmortem examination and later handed over to the family for burial.

A case of Murder by cutting has since been registered at Mbarara Central Police Station under reference number CRB838/2021.
