Butambala county MP Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi trounced Mukono municipality legislator Hon Nambooze Betty Bakireke to become the new chief of Buganda Parliamentary caucus.

MP Nambooze tried to block the caucus elections, asking fellow MPs time to discuss together as MPs from Buganda region to reach an agreement.

However, NUP MPs who are the majority in the caucus refused her idea, saying they had no one to consult.

Thus moving forward to elect Hon Muwanga.

A reliable source told Whisper Eye that the Leader of Opposition hon Mathias Mpuuga played a cardinal role in Nambooze’s defeat.

“MP Mpuuga meets top Mengo leaders who tasked him to back Muwanga’s candidature against all odds,” says the source.

“After a successful move against MP Nambooze, they convinced NUP principle to call hon Kalwanga who was in a position to win Mr. Muwanga,” the source added.

According to the source, LoP hon Mpuuga, Mengo top leaders, and National Unity Platform (NUP) principal Hon Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert, popularly known as Bobi Wine, all agreed to have MP Muwanga Kivumbi as the new Commander in Buganda.

  5. Publicity Secretary- Joyce Bagala Ntwatwa (Mityana district woman Mp), NUP
  6. Secretary for Mobilization: Yusuf Nsibambi – Mawokota South), FDC
  7. Secretary for Welfare and Development: Fred Kayondo (Mukono South), DP
  8. Secretary for External Relations: Dr. Christine Ndiwalana (Bukomansimbi North), NUP
  9. Secretary for Cultural Affairs: Denis Ssekabira (Katikamu North), NUP

The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) boycotted the elections despite offers of few positions on the Caucus by NUP.

Buganda parliamentary caucus elections were held on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, presided over by Busiro East Mp Medard Lubega Ssegona who officially declared elected leaders to start off their responsibilities.
