Kamuli Woman MP,  Alitwala Rebecca Kadaga, also the outgoing 10th Parliament Speaker says she will contest as an Independent  in the race for the 11th Parliament Speaker.

Kadaga told journalists at a Hotel Africana Press Conference that while her NRM Party has decided to field her former Deputy , Jacob Oulanyah for the position, she will not heed to the position and therefore will exercise her right to run as an Independent when Parliament meets tomorrow to elect Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

Her decision follows reports that the NRM’s Central Executive Committee has resolved to field Jacob Oulanyah as the party’s preferred candidate for the office of the Speaker of the 11th Parliament.

Dressed in a mixed colored African attire, Kadaga looked calm as she addressed journalists. She did not entertain more questions but briefly  repeated her remarks in Lusoga.

She called on Ugandans to ask the MPs to vote for her since she represents interests and needs of the ordinary people.

She says the major reason she is being chased out is because she has been speaking on issues affecting ordinary people.

She said that by ejecting her, the position of women in the constitution has been eliminated.

NRM  Caucus is still locked in concluding on the Deputy Speaker position. Those in the list are West Budama North MP Jacob Oboth-Oboth, Bukedea Woman MP Anita Among, Ruhinda North MP Thomas Tayebwa, Gomba West MP,  Robinah Rwakoojo and Lwemiyaga MP Theodore Ssekikubo.
