Reading Time: < 1 minute

Mbarara City FC’s two goals from Henry Kitegenyi and Bashir Mutanda were enough to earn them a vital win over Onduparaka FC at Kakyeka Stadium on Saturday.

Mbarara City Fc who were one point below Ouduparaka moved two points clear in a well  deserved win.

The Ankole Lions Bashir Mutanda’s 94th Minute free-kick neutralised the visitors’ hard-earned equalizer in the 79th minute.

Mutanda came in as a substitute to replace Okwalinga who had tried to create an impact on the 53rd minute with a through pass to Kitegenyi but was intercepted.

Onduparaka who looked like a force in the second half got an equalizer in the 79th minute but failed to build on to get a win or a deserved draw.

Onduparaka’s Joseph Mutyaba blamed the rains for the loss noting that it disrupted his game plan and he went to Kakyeka Stadium knowing that the Ankole Lions were to revenge for the earlier defeat.

Mbarara City FC assistant coach Sadiq Sempigi said that the club needed the three points because Onduparaka was ahead of them.

He said Mbarara FC needed to stay safe on the table and league.

He said the focus has now shifted to the Vipers game.

Mbarara City FC’s win moves them to the 10th position with 29 points while Ouduparaka FC sits in the 12th position with 27 points.

Mbarara City now takes a trip to St. Marys’ Stadium on the 18th May to play Vipers wheras Ouduparaka visit Bright Stars FC.
