National Unity Platform (NUP) official candidate Oguttu Aaron has been defeated by Independent candidate Ssempijja Ivan on Friday evening 7th May 2021.

Mr Ssempijja Nup leaning emerged the winner and declared as the 86th Makerere Guild President.

Oguttu was declared NUP flag bearer amidst contest from Nalukwago Judith supporters who was denied the party ticket and later disqualified by the University administration.

Ms Nalukwago and two other candidates backed Mr Ssempijja thus clearing his chances of emerging victorious.

Many NUP leaders including party secretary general David Luis Rubongoya endorsed and campaigned for Mr Oguttu, but their support couldn’t save him from humiliation.

Mr Ssempijja scored 3112 votes followed by Oguttu Aaron with 1833 votes and and Bbosa Edwine managed to get 248 votes.

Ssempijja will succeed Julius Kateregga who was recently elected Lord Councilor representing Makerere University on NUP ticket.

During his campaigns Mr Ssempijja promised to handle all student related issues including the unfair increase of tuition fees, dismissal of students from the University among others.
