Stanbic Uganda Cup: Express FC defeat URA in First Leg

Home side Express FC picked a slim advantage in the Stanbic Uganda Cup after a 2-1 win against Uganda Revenue Authority – URA FC in the first leg in the round of 16 played this afternoon at the Betway Mutesa II stadium.

The Red Eagles staged a fight back to stun the tax collectors who took an early. Two goals by Martin Kizza and Erick Kambale helped the Red Eagles smile away with the win.

URA FC who are top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League table who started looking sharper were rewarded with in the first two minutes through Ibrahim Dada. However their lead was canceled by Kizza in the 17th minute before inform Kambale doubled the lead for Express FC in the second half.

Express FC head coach Wasswa Bbossa said the win does not guarantee that they have qualified for the next stage. He said they need to work hard in the return leg and correct the mistakes.

Express FC Captain Enoch Walusimbi said his team concentrated so much after they conceded an early goal which helped them to get an equalizer and the winning goal.  

The win however means that Express has registered a third straight win against URA FC in the season after a double victory in the league. Elsewhere in Uganda Cup, SC Villa beat Onduparaka 1-0, while Vipers SC stopped UPDF 3-1.
