Uganda Beach soccer team, the Sand Cranes has been drawn in Group A alongside hosts Senegal and Tanzania in the tournament slated to start next month.

According to the draws, Uganda’s opening game will be against Tanzania before they play hosts Senegal and then the Democratic Republic of Congo- DRC.

Uganda Sand Cranes coach Salim Muwonge says that Uganda’s opponents in the group are tough.

Muwonge adds that they enter residential training in a few days to select the players who will make the final squad to Senegal for the finals.

Uganda Sand Cranes qualified for the Beach Soccer finals automatically after Uganda’s qualifying opponents Ghana withdrew from the tournament. This is the first time Uganda is playing in the finals of the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations.

The 2020 Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations will be the fourth edition of the premier beach soccer championship in Africa contested by men’s national teams who are members of the Confederation of African Football.

The tournament was supposed to take place in Jinja in November last year, but it was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the rising water levels on the shores of Lake Victoria.

CAF selected defending champions Senegal as the new hosts and the tournament was rescheduled to take place from 23 to 29 May 2021. According to CAF, the winner and losing finalist will qualify to represent Africa at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Russia 2021.
