Reports from Mityana district indicate that Enock Matovu a news reporter working with NTV was severely beaten by security operatives dressed in Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) uniforms.

A reliable source told Whisper Eye News that armed soldiers accused Mr Matovu of moving past the curfew hours.

“The journalist pleaded to the soldiers explaining to them, while showing them his Media Identity Card but they couldn’t listen to him a single second,” a witness said.

“Their number plate could not be recognized as they had covered it with mud,” he explained.

The witness told Whisper Eye News that Mr Matovu was riding a Motorcycle branded with his company’s logo and he also showed his employee’s identity card but this didn’t save him.

His ribs are reportedly broken and may not return to work soon.

Journalists demand a statement from UPDF and many have criticized the force for violating media freedom even after the match between the Security organs and the Media fraternity that was organized last week at Omondi Stadium Lugogo, Kampala.
