Police Meets Hotel, Bar Operators in Moroto Municipality Over Insecurity

Police has today met hotel and bar operators in Moroto Municipality following continuous presence of criminal groups in the Municipality.

The meeting called by the acting district police Commander Moroto, Abel Kyooto Barugahare was aimed highlighting aspects of insecurity in the Municipality. He  cautioning the hotel and bar operators to be mindful of security and also ensure that they close their business places by 9pm.

According to Barugahare, criminal gangs take advantage to spent much of their time in the drinking places waiting for the late hours to go and carry out criminal activities in the Municipality.

He said some of the bar and hotel operators had opened fully even when the Ministry of Health maintains that all these places should be closed by 9pm as measure to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

“We have called you here to talk about the presence of criminal gang’s that have been terrorizing the Municipality. So we are informing you that should we fine any of your business places of work still opened by 9pm you will be in trouble,” added Barugahare.

He warned the bar operators that the bars have not been opened and no body is expected to open.

Moroto Municipality for the last one month has been experiencing a lot of insecurity  caused by armed suspected Karimojong warriors.

From December 2020 to April 2021 more than 23 people have lost their lives in the two districts of Moroto and Napak which is believed to be planned by the same group of criminals.

Joyce Nakut, one of the bar operators thanked Police for organising the meeting and promised to work together to end the criminality in the town. “We are only requesting the Police is to change the tactics of their operations because it seems the criminals have learnt ways of dodging the security,” said Nakut.

Joseph Lomongin, another trader appealed to Police to always respond quickly whenever they are called.
