The Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) party coordinators for Kigezi region have tasked the party president Major General Gregg Mugisha Muntu to explain why there were no resources to fund the promotion of the party during the recent general elections.

Coordinators stressed this during the Kigezi region delegates review meeting held at Heras Country Resort in Kabale district on Monday. The meeting was aimed at sharing challenges faced during the election cycle and generating ideas for the next five-year strategic plan.

However, ANT party coordinators said that they were perturbed by the lack of resources especially funding which was crucial for promoting the party to the public. Coordinators Frank Namara, from Kanungu district, Johnson Muhwezi from Rukiga and Alex Ndyabahika from Rukungiri district, all stated that they almost lost morale when the party failed to pay agents deployed at polling stations on polling day.

Lucky Yatuha, the party coordinator for Kisoro district says that even with continuous reminders to the ANT head office in Kampala, he never received any poster of Mugisha Muntu in Kisoro district, yet the candidate was campaigning for the presidency and needed to be popularised. He adds that top officials within the party were unwilling to listen to challenges raised by grassroots mobilisers.

But Muntu apologized on behalf of the party saying that the party completely had no funds as many of their funders did not release money in time.  Muntu, however, says that the challenges should not make coordinators and supporters lose hope in the future progress of the party.

Gerald Karuhanga, the ANT western region coordinator says that they have now embarked on instilling a spirit of personal financial contribution into their members to support their party than waiting for aid from well-wishers.

Muntu contested for the presidency in the 2021 general elections but garnered 67,574 votes. ANT party also did not get any winning candidate at the parliamentary level. It only secured Wilfred Saka as the winner for LCV Chairperson seat for Terego district out of all districts across the country.
