A theatre project at Bulucheke health center III in Bududa district said to have cost over 200 million shillings has lain idle for 2 years due to lack of equipment.

The theater which was constructed in 2019 has been lying idle due to lack of funds to buy apparatus to be used in running activities such as operations.

It is estimated that over 500 million shillings is needed to buy the equipment to be used. The basic equipment needed includes Caeserian operation set, Anasthetic machine, and operating table. Others are spongy forceps, kidney dishes, gallipot among others.

In a bid to have Bulucheke health Center III upgraded to IV, Bududa district constructed the theater at Bulucheke health center as this was to improve on the service delivery for the people in Lutseshe  constituency.According to William Kotaki, in charge of Bulucheke health center III, the theatre was supposed to have been commissioned in 2019 just after completion but because of the monetary constraints, they were unable to.

He said they have nothing to do since they have no funds but are looking up to the health ministry to provide them with the equipment.

Penina Nasaka, a resident of Bumwalukani asked the government to help and finish the theater as this shall help them during cesarean referrals which she says are dangerous sometimes due to long distances to Bududa hospital and to Mbale.

Henry Wambi, another resident said thieves have now started vandalizing the fittings because the theater is non-functional. He appealed to the government to make it functional.

Godfrey Namable the assistant district health officer said they have written and submitted the list of equipment to the ministry of health to chip in and lend a hand so that they can serve the population. He said they are only waiting for the response from the health ministry so that they can take a stand.
