49 Trained Specialists Graduate from Uganda Heart Institute

The first cohort of 49 locally trained specialists has graduated from the Uganda Heart Institute.

Previously, doctors who wanted to specialize in heart care had to travel abroad at a total cost of 400 Million Shillings.

With just 100 Million Shillings doctors have been able to specialize in seven cardiac disciplines at the institute. These include; adult cardiology, cardiac nursing, cardiac critical care, cardiac anesthesia and critical care, cardiac surgery, pediatric cardiology, perfusion technology and cardiac catheter technology.

One killed as minibus rams into immigration Office perimeter wall

One person has died and two others were injured when a minibus driver lost control and knocked a motorcycle along the Kampala-Jinja road next today. The accident happened near the Ministry of Internal Affairs offices in Kampala.

According to eyewitnesses, the Isuzu minibus registration number UAW-298N that was heading to the city centre lost control and rammed into the wall of the Internal Affair Ministry. It also knocked two people who were riding on a motorcycle registration number UES-978X.  

Judge excuses self from entebbe expressway murder case

Justice Wilson Kwesiga has excused himself from a case in which Police Constable Davis Taremwa is accused of killing two people along the Entebbe Expressway in 2019.

Taremwa was in 2019, charged with two counts of murder, over a shooting that claimed two lives of Joshua Ruhegyera Nteireho and Merinah Tumukunde, at Nambigirwa Bridge along the Entebbe Expressway.  Taremwa was arrested after his gun was found at the scene of the crime.

On Thursday, before Taremwa could take a plea in the case, Justice Kwesiga said that he could not hear the case due to a conflict of interest.  He explained that the deceased Nteireho was a son to one of the clients he represented during private practice.

I Won’t negotiate with Kaguta to free our people-Kyagulanyi

The president of the National Unity Platform-NUP Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has said that he has no intentions of negotiating with president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the release his supporters who were arrested last year.

It’s exactly four months since security forces rounded up and arrested members of Kyagulanyi’s campaign team while in Kalangala district where he had gone to look for votes ahead of the presidential election in January 2021.

Ugandan trucker beaten to coma, 6 Kenyans Kidnapped in South Sudan

A Ugandan truck driver identified as Vincent Mulika, alias Kamanda is battling for his life after he was allegedly beaten to comma by the military and immigrations officials in South Sudan.

Mulika was reportedly beaten on Wednesday in Nesitu, along Nimule-South Sudan highway., while transporting cargo to Juba board his truck registration number UAJ 174T. He is now admitted to Juba Referral Hospital.

He becomes the latest Ugandan truck driver to fall victim to the attacks along the Nimule-Juba highway which are mainly targeting foreign cargo drivers from the neighbouring East African Community block plying the route. The highway is a lifeline for South Sudan, which imports almost everything, and for people travelling to Uganda.

Farmers in Acholi raise concern over dilapidated produce stores

Farmers in the Acholi sub-region have raised concern over the sorry state of produce stores built by the government during the Lord’s Resistance Army – LRA rebels post conflict.

Several stores across the eight districts in the region are non-functional or their roofs were blown out by violent storms.

When National Unity Platform (NUP’s) Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine met families of his campaign crew who were arrested during a Campain Rally in Kalangala four months ago, some spouted anguish.  

A parent of one of the detained crew members told Bobi Wine during the meeting at the NUP headquarters in Kamwokya this month that he was solely responsible for the detention of his son, wondering why the candidate himself wasn’t detained with them for this long. Bobi Wine’s soothing words did not soothe this parent in any way.

Breaking, Minister Rukutana acquitted!!!

State Minister for Labor Mwesigwa Rukutana has been acquitted of all charges stemming from a shooting incident in the just concluded campaigns. He was facing seven counts of attempted murder, threatening violence and malicious damage to property.

Rukutana was arrested with three of his bodyguards from his home in Kagugu in Rushenyi county, a day after the National Resistance Movement -NRM party primaries on September 4, 2020. He had been accused of shooting his rivals’ agent Dan Rweburingi and damaging property among others, and subsequently charged for the same.

FAKE!!! Kitgum CCTV cameras non-functional, a year after installation

Several Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in Kitgum Municipality have remained nonfunctional, one year after they were installed.

The cameras were installed as part of a countrywide security plan following a presidential directive as a measure to help curb urban crimes and heighten security in all cities. The directive came in the wake of shootings in which several Muslim clerics and other officials were killed by unknown people.

Three burnt to death, four others hospitalized in suspected arson attack.

Police in Luwero district is hunting for unknown people who burnt three people to death and left four others critically injured in a suspected arson attack on an LCII Chairperson.

The deceased have been identified as Irene Nangobi, Esther Naigaga and Amos Ndaye who had visited the father in law Edward Ssekandi the LC II Chairperson for Kabanyi parish in Bamunanika Sub County.

Lamwo teacher wanted for allegedly inciting students to strike.

The Police in Lamwo district is investigating a biology teacher at Kuc Ki Gen Secondary School in Padibe West Sub County for allegedly inciting students to strike.

Last week, senior three students staged a strike protesting failure to teach them Biology and Mathematics. The students also accused the school authorities of not replacing the teachers who were transferred to other schools.

Arua mayor wants rival’s victory overturned

The Interim Mayor of Arua City Issa Kato has filed a petition challenging the victory of Wadri Sam Nyakua in the January Mayoral elections.

Nyakua, who is the LCV Chairperson Arua District was declared the winner with 13,564 votes against Issa Kato’s 13,313 votes.

Kato claims that the election was marred by irregularities and rigging arguing that the victory is null and void. He says that his legal team has already served his opponent with the petition as they await the court decision.
