One person has died and two others hospitalized at Nakaseke Hospital over suspected poisoning.

The deceased has been identified as Abdul Nyabenda, a resident of Wandegeya village in Kito sub-county in Nakaseke district, while those in the hospital are Maimuna Nasande, a wife to the deceased and her daughter Sharon Namuganza.

Mathias Ssegirinya the Vice-Chairperson of Wandegeya village says that Nyabende and his two family members developed stomach complications after eating groundnut sauce at around 8 pm on Friday night. They were then rushed to a health centre at Kasambya village from where they were referred to Nakaseke Hospital for better management.

Nyabende died on the way to the hospital.  According to Ssegirinya, it is suspected that the sauce was poisoned by someone between 6 and 8 p.m. because four other family members who shared it at 5 pm did not have any problems.

He added that investigations are already underway. “..our detectives are still at Nakaseke hospital trying to get particulars and see whether they can speak to the survivors,” Ssemwogerere told URN in an interview today.

The body of the deceased is still at the mortuary at Nakaseke hospital where a post-mortem is expected to be done to establish the exact cause of death.
