The assistant procurement officer for Rubirizi district Izidol Saturday has been arrested by Police for allegedly soliciting a bribe.

Izidol is accused of soliciting a bribe from Eng. Timothy Muhwezi, the Director of Mulumba Construction Limited promising to award him a contract to construct Kirugu Moslem Primary School in Katerera Sub County Rubirizi District.

Martial says that Izidol had asked for 3,880,000 million shillings from Muhwezi to assist him to win the contract from the Procurement Committee but in total, he has taken Shillings 4.950.000 Million.

The District in August 2020 announced the bidding to construct Kirugu Moslem Primary school which was later taken by Maluku works. The construction was to last six months.

Martial says Izidol was arrested on Tuesday evening as he had gone to pick 300,000 shillings from Muhwezi in Bushenyi town to sign contract papers.

Muhwezi says that Izidol has been continuously lying to him about the contract despite the school is already constructed.

He says that Izidol had asked for money to transport the regional procurement officer from Kasese and the other to pay the chairperson of the procurement committee.

According to Muhwezi, when he discovered that the school had been constructed, he reported a case at police in Rubirizi and later set a trap to arrest him.

Sylvester Agubanshongorera, Rubirizi LCV Chairperson says that Izidol had promised Muhwezi a contract that was taken by another contractor last year.
