Francis Nsamba Ssentalo, a member of Masaka District Production Committee is battling for his life at Masaka Regional Referral Hospital after being stabbed several times by thugs on the head.

Ssentalo was stabbed by the thugs when he responded to an alarm from a nearby mobile money shop, which they had raided.   The incident occurred at Katwe trading center in Masaka city around 7:30 pm on Saturday evening.

It is reported that no sooner had Ssentalo arrived at the shop than the thugs pounced on him, raining blows and stabbed him before disappearing. Ssentalo lay on the ground unconscious as he bled excessively from the deep cuts he sustained during the attack.

Irate residents pursued the thugs for over an hour and caught one of them. They pounced on him and beat him with clubs leaving him unconscious.

Anti-riot police arrived in time to rescue the suspect from the angry mob that wanted to set him on fire. Muhammad Nsubuga, the Masaka Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident, saying both Ssentalo and the suspect are admitted in acute condition.

He says they are waiting for the suspect to regain consciousness to help them in the search for his accomplices.  Nsubuga has appealed to residents and mobile money shop owners and attendants to be vigilant and promote the neighbourhood watch.
