Twenty Uganda People’s Defense Forces-veterans are nursing injuries they sustained in a road accident at Nabiswa village in Kibuku district this morning.

Witnesses say the accident occurred after a Prado TX Registration number UBC 391B rammed into a UPDF truck registration number H4DF2318, which was transporting an unspecified number of veterans.

They blame the accident on the driver of the Prado, who was allegedly speaking on the phone while driving. Jude Wandera, the Elgon/Bukedi UPDF spokesperson, says the veterans were travelling from Mbale to Singo Army training school.

They are among the 1000 retired soldiers who were recalled for deployment on a peace keeping mission in Somalia. He when the Prado rammed into the UPDF truck, the driver lost control forcing the truck to overturn injuring over 20 veterans.

The driver of the Prado is still on the run. The injured veterans were evacuated to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital for treatment.
