The accused, Anicent Natukunda is a resident of Buhekyena village in Karujaga parish of  Rubaya subcounty, Kabale district.  She delivered yesterday the 22nd February 2021 at around 4:00 pm and allegedly dumped the child in a cassava garden.

Kigezi Region Spokesperson Elly Maate says the child was recovered by Sanyu Asumpta a  Village Health Team official from Ruhita village in Kibuga parish, Rubaya subcounty.

Asumpta reportedly found the baby wrapped in a kavera crying, picked it and wrapped it in a kitenge piece of cloth after which she took it to police at Katuna.

The officer in charge of  Katuna Police post rushed the baby to Kamuganguzi health centre III from where the umbilical code was cut before they proceeded to Kabale police station.

According to Maate, after recording the case, the baby  was taken to Rugarama hospital for further management.

Maate says shortly  after the baby was taken to Rugarama Hospital, the local residents called the police informing them that they had identified the person who delivered and abandoned the child.

Following her arrest, Naturinda reportedly claimed that the person who impregnated her, denied the pregnancy  which prompted her to abandon the baby immediately after birth.
