Nakaseke police are hunting for unknown assailants for burning four family members to death. The deceased have been identified as Gladys Nanyonjo, 4, Christine Nakate, 5, Steven Bamulasa, 12, and their 85-year-old grandfather, Matia Lukwago Kabalega, all residents of Kiziba village in Nakaseke town council.

Sebastian Mpagi, the Kaziba Village LC I Chairperson, says unidentified arsonists broke into the house of Lukwago around 1 am in the wee hours of Tuesday morning. They reportedly doused the household items with fuel before torching them. Mpagi says that Bamulasa, Nanyonjo and Nakate suffocated to death before they burnt beyond recognition.

According to Mpagi, Lukwago was hit by a falling door as he was trying to flee the fire and fell on the ground where he burnt to death. He says one of the girls survived the fire by feeling through a door that was destroyed by the thugs.

Isah Ssemwogerere, the Savannah Region Police Spokesperson, says that police officers dashed to the scene and found people dead. He explains that the 14-year-old survivor narrated that she saw four men with jerrycans before they set the house on fire. Ssemwogerere says that two people have been arrested to help police investigations.

He, however, that the preliminary reports show that arsonists were targeting Lukwago’s widow, Justine Namagembe whom they accused of practising witchcraft. Namagembe was away for two days before the arson attack.
