2021 Elections: FIA freezes NGO forum & UWONET bank accounts over funding terrorism in Uganda . Whisper Eye Reports

Uganda government security agencies sent intelligence reports to the Financial Intelligence Authority (FIA) that indicated that Uganda National NGO Forum and the Uganda Women Network were involved in terrorism financing activities.

The FIA has with that intelligence report frozen up to 19 bank accounts of the Non-Governmental Organizations which are being accused of financing terrorism in the country.

The affected organizations are Uganda Women’s Network (UWONET) and the National NGO Forum which unites over 650 local NGOs.

The Accounts affected are in Stanbic Bank, Absa Bank , Standard Chartered Bank and KCB Bank for National NGO Forum.

UWONET accounts affected are in Stanbic Bank over numbering to eleven.

Sydney Asubo who heads the Financial Intelligence Authority says these two organization have been “involved in terrorism financing activities.”

Asubo wrote a letter to the office of the DPP and said the Authority accordingly decided to freeze the bank accounts of the NGOs.

Speaking to one of the officials who has worked with UWONET said this is abase less allegations that has been put in place to frustrate NGO works.

She declined commenting further however in yesterday thanksgiving prayers President Museveni accused foreigners over funding violence in the country.
