Release Ziza Bafana , Bobi Wine blasts Museveni over singer arrest. Whisper Eye Reports
Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) president who doubles as Kyadondo East MP Kyagulanyi Robert Ssentamu a musician turned into a politician popularly known by his stage name Bobi Wine asks government to release Reggae king in Uganda Mr Kasendwa Richard popularly known as Ziza Bafana.
“Our brother ZizaBafana is under illegal detention, ostensibly for defying Gen. Museveni’s directives on COVID-19,” says MP Kyagulanyi.
“The brother and his colleagues went to sing in Tanzania and upon return he was quarantined. After 14 days, instead of being allowed to go home, they were handed over to police,” He explained.
According to MP Kyagulanyi singer Kasendwa has been complaining of mistreatment while in quarantine, including being deprived of food, harassment, among others.
“His real crime is in fact not related to COVID-19, – it is simply because when he was in Tanzania, he spoke about Bobi Wine and promoted People Power on stage! His crime was singing about People Power while under quarantine!,” Mr Wine stated.
“If his crime was related to promoting COVID-19, thousands of National Resistance Movement (NRM) politicians should now be in custody,” he added.
MP Kyagulanyi has challenged police and government security agencies to arrest other singers who have been singing at NRM rallies, saying that should also be under detention.
“Gen. Museveni himself was in Tanzania on the weekend. It is very shameful that a government can treat citizens this way and punish them simply for identifying with a political leader or political formation.”
Mr Wine has consoled singer ZizaBafana to remain strong as they continue to demand for his release, “rest assured that Uganda will soon be free!” Hon Kyagulanyi remarked.
